2021 Ingenuity Impact Awards
2020 was a challenge for everyone. I suffered the pandemic, a redundancy and the menopause on full blast. Time to change – I didn’t have much choice. And I came out a winner!

I went back to Nottingham Trent University sponsored by the Office for Students to study an MSc in Data Science. While I was there I had the priviledge of all the opportunities afforded to students including access to the wonderful Ingenuity Impact business planning scheme designed to support students to develop businesses that can have social impact.

Over the course of a year Ingenuity provided us with fantastic training and mentoring to develop a business plan and enter our plans into a competition. When I found out that ChangeXtra had made the regional finals I was shocked and proud, and when a few weeks later I learned I had made the National Finals I was over the moon. It made so proud that people acknowledged the problem and thought my solution was worthwhile.
The final of Ingenuity was held in May 2020. I had to deliver a pitch and answer questions from an esteemed panel of business experts. I was expecting nothing and when the winners were announced I was absolutely gobsmacked (picture is totally genuine!). ChangeXtra swept the board winning 6 prizes including the big one – National Impact Entrepreneur of the Year.
The prizes and support offered by Ingenuity were all I needed to realise the dream. Thanks to the support I have had I can bring our services to market quickly and get out there supporting women, talking about the menopause and empowering positive change.
Change is scary but it can be positive!
